Claude Tackett is a senior associate serving the law firm’s spectrum of nonprofit organizations. He provides legal guidance on matters including corporate start-ups, ongoing operational issues, and specialized tax and other legal issues.
Claude’s legal expertise is built on a strong executive background in managing nonprofit finances, human resources, facilities, and technology. In addition, he has litigated extensively, including defense of health care providers, general liability, property development disputes, municipal law, and other commercial litigation. Claude is trained in conflict resolution, including mediation and arbitration, through Peacemaker Ministries. Claude also serves on the Board of Directors for two charitable organizations.
Claude’s diverse legal, operations, and leadership background equips him with a uniquely beneficial perspective for advising nonprofit clients. He understands the complex decisions leaders face in carrying out their vision and mission, while protecting their exempt status and promoting legal compliance. Claude is passionate about using his legal and administrative expertise to serve nonprofits as they serve their communities.
Prior to joining Wagenmaker & Oberly, Claude worked with the Charleston, South Carolina law firm of Smyth Whitley, LLC. Personally, he enjoys boating, camping, golf, and most things outdoors in Charleston, South Carolina, where he lives with his wife and four children.
