Katherine Dempsey

Katherine Dempsey is an associate attorney in the Corporate Practice Group. She assists nonprofit clients with a variety of corporate matters, including governing documents, corporate transitions, and contracts.
Before joining Wagenmaker & Oberly, Katherine was a business litigation associate at another law firm. This experience addressing disputes and lawsuits taught her about the importance of proper contracting, risk mitigation, and upfront identification of risks and expectations between parties.
Having grown up with close family members in the nonprofit sector, Katherine has a keen appreciation and passion for helping nonprofit organizations advance their missions and serve their communities.
Katherine graduated from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law, where she served as an Executive Editor for the Journal of Criminal Lawand Criminology. She was also co-president of Northwestern’s Christian Legal Society chapter and is an Alliance Defending Freedom Blackstone Fellow.
Prior to law school, Katherine worked in digital marketing,focusing on website search engine optimization. Before that, she worked in journalism at well-known magazine brands. Katherine’s journalism background honed her attention to detail, persistence, and intellectual curiosity. Katherine graduated summa cum laude from the Medill School at Northwestern University with her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in journalism.
In her spare time, Katherine enjoys spending time with her family and friends and enjoying time outside.
